(CNN) — Stipe Miocic defeated Daniel Cormier from the UFC 241 main event Saturday night to become the heavyweight champion.
For several rounds it seemed like Miocic could lose his next successive fight against Cormier, the defending heavyweight champ. Cormier conquer him UFC 226 at July 2018, knocking him out.
However, this period Miocic staged a comeback in the fourth round, bringing several body shots and also right-handed blows to Cormier’s mind which ended in a match to recover the name.
“He is an amazing fighter,” Miocic mentioned of his competition at a post-fight news conference. “He makes people feel uncomfortable in the slightest. He did for the first two rounds but then I started to receive my bearings. I saw him slowing down and I thought,’Ok this is where I take action today.’”
Before dropping to Cormier last calendar year, Miocic, 35, was the very first UFC heavyweight champion to defend the title three times.
Cormier, 40, the first and only UFC fighter to defend titles in two weight classes, has triumphed that Saturday’s struggle may be his last.
“Everybody asks about [retirement], but that’s what happens when you turn 40,” Cormier told CNN on Thursday. “I really feel great. I wanna get through this weekend, then I’ll sit with my loved ones, and we are going to figure out what’s going on. It’s a thing that is true , however. Father time builds up to everybody.”
