Peterborough company shows Ontario East can compete with the world
An Ontario East company with its roots in Peterborough is receiving recognition across North America. Flying Colours Corporation is highlighted in the September 2012 edition of Site Selection – the magazine of corporate real estate strategy and area economic development. One reason for that recognition is the work it is doing for its global clients.
Flying Colours Corp. specializes in business jet completions, maintenance and refurbishments. Based at the Peterborough Municipal Airport, it outfits high-caliber aircraft that belong to high-net-worth individuals and corporations from around the world.
The magazine quotes Sean Gillespie, the company’s executive vice president of sales and marketing: “I have two airplanes here brought all the way from Hong Kong just to have them refurbished. That’s a long flight just to be refurbished. But it shows what our people can do.”
There is interest from other customers in China, as well as from the rest of Asia, Russia and the Middle East. Flying Colours Corporation is looking to Asia for its next operational hub, which would join a site in St. Louis. But Site Selection notes the company’s roots are in Peterborough. It began there 36 years ago, now employs 180 people and as the airport has expanded, Flying Colours expects to grow. That could mean even more jobs.
Flying Colours also recognizes the importance of partnerships. It works with the Greater Peterborough Area Economic Development Corporation and the province. It also has a unique training and curriculum partnership with Fleming College.
