Limestone Organic Creamery celebrates its Grand Opening
There’s fresh, and then there is really fresh!
The grand opening of Limestone Organic Creamery offers the chance to taste milk so fresh, it has travelled less than one food mile
The creamery is operated by the Groenewegen family on Sydenham Road in Elginburg. It also includes a retail outlet called the Farm Store where customers can buy Limestone Organic milk and other dairy products such as butter. A range of Organic Meadow products such as cream, cheese, yogurt and sour cream is also available, along with locally produced, artisanal cheeses, vegetables from local growers, and frozen organic meats.
The Groenewegen family has been a part of the Organic Meadow Co-Op for 10 years. In the past, they sent their organic raw milk to the co-op for processing. However, with the opening of the Limestone Organic Creamery, their milk is processed and sold locally.
“We have been dairy farmers all of our lives and our children are the third generation farming on our land. Fourteen years ago, we decided to transition to organic agriculture for a healthier, more meaningful way of life,” says Kathie Groenewegen. Her husband, Francis, and their two children Patrick and Olivia are full partners in the creamery.
The Groenewegen farm was certified organic 10 years ago. “Our milk contains no antibiotics or hormones,” says Kathie. “And we don’t use pesticides or herbicides on our farm land. We are responding to the growing demand by consumers who want to purchase more wholesome, fresh food, grown and produced closer to home.”
Patrick also plays another role. He drives the truck that makes weekly home deliveries from the Creamery. The delivery area runs to Highway 15 in the east, west to Westbrook and north to Sydenham. Customers can place their orders by calling 613-542-0732 or using an online form listed on www.limestonecreamery.com.
