Adam Lallana equaliser saved a stage for an Liverpool as they drew Sunday at a match littered with VAR play.
Following a frantic opening lacking in clear-cut chances, the game burst in the first half with 2 VAR calls that were critical. To begin with, Marcus Rashford gave United the lead from close range (36) since Liverpools cries for a foul about Divock Origi in the build-up were denied by VAR.
Afterward, since Sadio Mane appeared to have equalised (44), VAR properly mastered the attack for a handball. Both choices prompted wild parties from the home crowd, but Liverpool, who had been looking for a record-equalling 18 directly Premier League wins, levelled late on through sub Lallanas back-post tap (85).
United moves to 13th, seven points away from the top , while Liverpool watch their guide at the top cut to six points after the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday of Manchester City.
United started resisting the desire, although marcos Rojo was thrown after a injury to Axel Tuanzebe to the occasion.
Symptomatic of a group lacking confidence did not know what to do with it but although there was a lack of early chances as United got into good positions. Liverpools best chance came down the right flank as Mane squared for Roberto Firmino, whose reduced, sliding effort was saved by David de Gea.
After a Saturday it arrived on the largest stage on Super Sunday. United took the lead via Rashford, tapping home at close range after Daniel James facility in the right, however Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp felt Origi was clipped by Victor Lindelof from the accumulation.
Theres definitely touch with Origi and its a filthy, said Graeme Souness at the Super Sunday studio, but VAR David Coote deemed the handle honest, and Stockley Park ruled to frustrate Liverpool again minutes later in a sequence of events that Klopp afterwards said showedall of the issues of VAR.
Mane slipped the ball beyond De Gea from eight metres after outmuscling Lindelof from the box, however, replays, prompted by VAR, demonstrated as he commanded the ball had hit his arm. United players made a point while Liverpool trudged off of sprinting inside as the half-time whistle went. The half was summed by it up.
As though the hosts did break briefly through Rashford, that delivered a shot from 20 yards wide Klopp moved to replace Origi using Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain united began to sit in after the rest.
While the sight of De Gea climbing to collect a loose ball turned into a recognizable one klopp was visibly mad on the touchline with a few of the passing of Liverpool. But with five seconds remaining, Liverpool struck to maintain their unbeaten start.
The left-flank cross of andrew Robertson somehow found its way to locate Lallana lurking, and he exploited home.
It felt like 1999 inside Old Trafford for 85 minutes, and an under-par Liverpool will feel relieved to escape with a stage.
At Old Trafford, VAR occurred over for a large chunk. Sky Sports Jamie Carragher praised VAR because of the second major intervention but Rashfords target prompted discussion and left Klopp fuming.
Its VAR at its very finest. That might be granted before and its handball – it shouldnt be a target. We disagree on that first goal, especially with certain things and can have talking points, but that was the reason VAR has been brought in.
Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer:[We got] a wonderful response from the boys and we all know weve got a team that will work for every other with a fantastic attitude and air from there.
Perhaps this can turn the entire year because theyre disappointed in the dressing room because they believe we should have won and thats a fantastic indication for a manager to view. Our lovers, they revealed again that they can see whats occurring and we will get there.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp:Theyre better than people and defended well, but in the long run they scored a target that reveals all the issues with VAR. Mr Atkinson allow the game run on because that is the protocol of VAR, and VAR reveals that there was contact and it was a foul. But that couldnt change. It is not cool, although they still had 70 or 60 yards to conduct to score the goal.
We scored a goal that has been disallowed. We didnt lose, although today pretty much everything went . We deserved the point, 100 percent.
Jose Mourinho:Klopp hasnt conquered United in Old Trafford, and I feel he did not enjoy the menu. Beef is liked by him, and he got fish! I believe United and Ole, after such a wonderful attempt, will feel a bit disappointed. At the start of the match I asked United for heart. They had it but they had more than that.
Roy Keane:With Liverpool, in case you are talking about winning names, you are talking about collecting points once you play seriously, and thats precisely what they did.
Graeme Souness:I think Liverpool got away with it a bit. United worked their socks off at the first half. I think United will require a lot. They turned today.
Manchester United now go to Partizan Belgrade in 5.55pm on Thursday in the Europa League, before a trip to Norwich on Sunday at 4.30pm. Liverpool reaches Genk on Wednesday at 8pm at the Champions League, and then sponsor Tottenham in 4.30pm on Super Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League and Main Event.
