As they drew 1-1 at Manchester United on Super Sunday at a game littered with VAR play with adam Lallanas late equaliser saved a point for the Liverpool.
Following a opening missing in clear-cut chances, the game exploded late in first half with 2 VAR calls that were crucial. First, Marcus Rashford gave United the lead from close range (36) since Liverpools cries for a foul on Divock Origi from the build-up were denied by VAR.
Then, since Sadio Mane looked to have equalised (44), VAR properly ruled the attack out for a handball. Both choices prompted wild parties from the home crowd, but Liverpool, who have been searching for a record-equalling 18 straight Premier League wins, levelled late on through sub Lallanas back-post tap in (85).
United moves into 13th, seven points while Liverpool see their guide at the top cut to six points after the 2-0 win at Crystal Palace on Sunday of Manchester City.
Marcos Rojo was pitched to the event but United began resisting the temptation.
There was a lack of chances as United got into good positions however, symptomatic of a team lacking confidence, only did not know what to do with it. Liverpools best chance came down the perfect flank as Mane squared for Roberto Firmino, whose non, David de Gea saved slipping attempt.
After a Saturday it arrived again on the largest point on Super Sunday. United took the lead tapping home at close range after Daniel James superb centre from the right, but Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp felt Victor Lindelof from the build-up cliped Origi.
Theres definitely contact with Origi plus its a filthy, said Graeme Souness in the Super Sunday studio, however VAR David Coote deemed the handle honest, and Stockley Park ruled to frustrate Liverpool again minutes later in a succession of events that Klopp afterwards said revealedall the problems of VAR.
Mane slid the ball from eight yards after outmuscling Lindelof in the box, but replays demonstrated the ball had hit his arm since he commanded. United gamers made a stage of running indoors, while Liverpool trudged off as the half-time whistle went. It summed way up the half.
United started to sit after the break as although the hosts failed break temporarily through Rashford, who delivered a low shot from 20 yards wide Klopp shortly moved to replace Origi with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Although the sight of De Gea rising to collect a loose ball became a familiar one klopp was visibly furious on the touchline using a few of Liverpools departure. However, with five seconds remaining, Liverpool struck to maintain their unbeaten start.
Andrew Robertson cross found its way to find Lallana lurking, and he tapped home.
Leading due to the 1,999th Premier League goal, it felt like 1999 inside Old Trafford for 85 minutes, and an under-par Liverpool will feel relieved to escape with a stage.
At Old Trafford, VAR occurred over for a large chunk. Sky Sports Jamie Carragher commended VAR because of its big intervention but discussion was prompted by the target of Rashford and abandoned Klopp fuming.
It is VAR at its finest. That might be awarded before and its handball – it should not be a target. We disagree on this first goal, especially with certain items and could have talking points on VAR, but that has been the reason VAR has been brought in.
Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer:[We got] a great response from the boys and we all know weve got a team which can work for each other with a terrific attitude and atmosphere from there.
Perhaps this can turn the season because they are disappointed in the dressing room because they feel that we should have won and thats a good sign for a manager to see. Our fans, they showed again that they can see whats happening and we will arrive.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp:They were better than those and defended well, but in the long run they scored a goal that reveals all of the issues with VAR. Mr Atkinson let the game run on because thats the protocol of VAR, and VAR reveals that there was touch and it was a foul. But this could not alter. It is not cool, although they had 60 or 70 yards to run to score the target.
We scored a goal that has been disallowed. Pretty much everything went against us but we didnt lose. We deserved the point, 100 per cent.
Jose Mourinho:Klopp has never conquered United at Old Trafford, and I believe he didnt enjoy the menu. Beef is liked by him, and he acquired fish! I believe caked and United, following such a wonderful attempt, will truly feel somewhat disappointed. At the start of the game I asked United for heart. They had it but they had more than that.
Roy Keane:With Liverpool, if youre talking about winning names, you are discussing amassing points once you play badly, and thats exactly what they did.
Graeme Souness:I believe Liverpool got off with it a little bit. United worked their socks off in the first half. I think United will require a lot from that game. They turned today.
Manchester United go to Partizan Belgrade in 5.55pm on Thursday at the Europa League, before a trip to Norwich on Sunday at 4.30pm. Liverpool reaches Genk on Wednesday at 8pm at the Champions League, and then sponsor Tottenham at 4.30pm on Super Sunday, live on Sky Sports Premier League and Main Event.
