The local wine and maple syrup producer recently learned three of his entries in an international wine competition had been presented with a bronze award.
Owner of Moon Shadows Estate Winery, Thompson received a bronze award at the Intervin International Wine Awards for 2011 in the fruit wine category for his fuzzy peach wine and a bronze in the dessert wine category for both his iced apple and maple sugar wines.
Presented by Vines Magazine, the competition is open to countries from around the world and includes a variety of categories, with the majority focusing on grape wines.
This year approximately 15 countries entered, said Thompson. The awards were judged in Niagara on the Lake.
”We like this [competition] because it happens in Ontario but includes international wines,” said Thompson.
Organizers from the competition present plaques or certificates to the winners.
“The recognition is nice, it gets the word out there,” said Thompson.
