A couple of years ago I (Andrew Redden) met up with a couple of entrepreneurs who run a couple of beer festivals in Muskoka and Toronto. I said to them, “Why not one in Hastings County?” They came and met with me and the rest is history. On October 13th we celebrated the 2nd Annual Hastings County Beer Festival. An even larger crowd converged on Farmtown Park in Stirling to sample locally produced micro brews from at least 20 different breweries. It was all paired with locally produced foods and cheeses. Everyone was entertained by a brewing demonstration and top quality musicians.
Why put on something like this? Well, certainly enjoying craft beer is one thing. But another is that it helps draw attention to our region as a creative place that has some cool things going on. Aside from attracting a few craft beer lovers to our area who may hopefully one day decide to invest or open up a craft brewery, I like how these events are fun and make my job easier. By simply having an event or festival like this, the word gets out about Hastings County, a cool County in Ontario East.
I can’t wait for next year’s Beer Festival… it promises to be even bigger and better!
