Port Hope

Expressions of preservation, protection and plants

10 stunning Port Hope gardens are on display this summer during the 13th Biennial ACO Garden Tour.

The event was published in the House & Home magazine’s July issue. The ACO garden tour was listed as one of nine not-to-be missed events in the magazine’s cross-Canada listing of home and garden tours, antique and craft show, art exhibits and more.

The Architecutural Conservency of Ontario Garden Tour takes place on July 9th – it will showcase gardens that will inspire, charm and delight.

Creativity is blossoming in the backyards of our community.

The Port Hope Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario mission is to help preserve buildings and structures of architectural merit and to protect places of natural beauty. The Port Hope branch is made up of dedicated and passionate volunteers.  As a result of their passion, Port Hope can now boast one of the finest inventories of historically important homes and buildings in the country.

In 2002 the Municipality of Port Hope was awarded the prestigious honour of possessing the finest heritage mainstreetscape in Ontario. Through the foresight of those who worked diligently for architectural preservation in the 1950′s and 60′s, their hardwork is now paying huge dividends for those many local businesses, catering to an economically important tourist trade. Hundreds of visits are paid to our wonderful town every year as visitors stroll our many historic streets and laneways, marvel at our heritage architecture and partake of some much needed quiet enjoyment.

The Port Hope Branch raises funds through membership fees, donations, proceeds from the annual auction, poster sales and the bi-annual garden tour.
