Port Hope science writer Peter MacMahon, who has a special passion for astronomy, has taken his act on the road with a portable planetarium. McMahon had not been impressed with the static nature of other portable planetariums he has seen, where the projector is not much more than a plastic can with a pinhole and a lightbulb inside. He and kindred spirit Rick Stankiewicz had a feeling they could do better, so they compared notes and went into business.
At a February 21st Community Visioning forum, over 70 participants identified the themes, ideas and goals that would be needed to bring Port Hope’s Downtown Revitalization Vision closer to reality.
Laurie Carr and Julie Mavis opened Cats Media in Port Hope when they started expanding into new territories outside of print work which include consultative marketing services, graphic design, digital photography, videography, IT services and web development complete with design, hosting and SEO. These additional services required a unique space and a skilled work force so they decided to open a second location where they live in Port Hope.
If Wonderland has a costume shop, it would surely resemble Arline Smith’s garage. The long-time Port Hope Santa Claus Parade supporter and participant enjoyed pulling together an outrageous costume each year, and wanted to invite some friends to join her. Because she loved putting the costumes together, she volunteered her skills. The little group of 10 she envisioned has grown into more than 30, as representatives and volunteers from merchants and businesses all over town have asked if they can tag along

On Saturday October 27, 2012, Port Hope will have the opportunity to Thrill the World. At 7:00 pm in Memorial Park, Port Hope will be participating in a worldwide effort to dance simultaneously to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” This global event is a collective world record attempt for largest simultaneous dance event. The dance will be led by Miss Jennifer Mercer, of Jennifer’s Jazz it Up Studio of Dance. The event is open to all ages. Zombie costumes strongly encouraged!

Owners Betsy and Omar promise much of the produce is delivered fresh daily on the same day it is harvested from their farm.
