Come Celebrate Winter in Cobourg

Julie Savard

Although the temperatures can plummet and the snow can fall for days, it’s no excuse to hibernate and hope it will all go away. In Cobourg, we embrace the winter as the Town hosts a bevy of snowy activities for the whole family.

Christmas Magic inaugurates the season as this festival of lights turns Victoria Park aglow. Crowds gather at Victoria Hall to share hot chocolate and prepare to walk down Main Street as they sing carols, in anticipation of the illumination of the park.

Skating is an all time favorite winter sport in Cobourg. Whether it is for a few rounds on our outdoor public skating rink or joining the Mayor’s Indoor Skating Party it’s not only fun but healthy too. So lace up those skates and enjoy the exercise.

But wintry fun doesn’t stop there. First Night of Cobourg, an annual free family-oriented, non-alcoholic New Year’s Celebration, rings in the New Year with live music, skating at the outdoor rink, horse drawn wagon rides and fireworks at 10:00 p.m.

And to continue the festivities into the New Year, come celebrate the arrival of 2013 at the Mayor’s Levee at Concert Hall to enjoy great company, great food and great entertainment in preparation for the Mayor’s address.

Mark this winter fun event on your calendar. Savoury Celebrations go on throughout the second week of February with culinary delight with prix fixe menus at some of Cobourg’s best restaurants, followed by two consecutive weekends of Winter Festivities and Family Day Celebrations. Skating and music at the outdoor rink, horse drawn wagon rides and ice carving demonstrations only add to the wintery fun in our snow-friendly town.

Winter festivities in Cobourg mean fun for everyone!
