Cobourg is on the move with a Downtown Revitalization Project that is well under way to help kick start efforts to stimulate Cobourg’s downtown economy. A two and a half day primer, facilitated by representatives of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), equipped 30 participants from around the county and as far east as Napanee with the necessary tools to understand and successfully direct a downtown revitalization project in their communities.
The Mission Statement of the Cobourg Downtown Task Force is:“To coordinate the development and implementation of a comprehensive plan to be utilized as a guiding tool to encourage business retention, expansion and attraction in downtown Cobourg”.
The newly formed committee is meeting regularly to work through a four-stage process that will help to guide and focus their efforts. It should be an exciting year for downtown Cobourg. Makes you want to start taping you feet to Petula Clark’s 1961 pop hit “Downtown”.
