Andrew Rankin found exactly what he wanted when he established the Algonquin East Animal Clinic in Barry’s Bay – a great location, friendly people, and a real need for his services. The nearest animal clinic was more than an hour’s drive away.
Rankin was born in the United Kingdom, and came to Barry’s Bay after stops in Scotland and Michigan. He looked at all the information available and decided Canada as a whole, and Ontario in particular, would be ideal.
The municipality’s economic development office helped seal the deal. They called back the same day the Rankin’s contacted them, and showed them the building where the clinic is now located. Rankin was impressed. “If you are going the build up an area, you have to make people want to come there, and they did that.”
Rankin also likes the quality of life in Barry’s Bay. “We’ve done the city thing. We’ve done the three hour journey to work and it just wears on you. In this rural area, the people are friendly. They wave to you and speak to you.
In fact, Rankin would recommend Barry’s Bay to anyone.
